Control Systems Instructional Laboratory :: Pedagogy by Practice
Precision. Accuracy. Speed.
Welcome to the Control Systems Instructional Laboratory, a unit of control laboratories that serve the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois.
Motor control
The electric servo motor is a ubiqutous control system. SE 320, 420 and ECE 486 begin by building a servo motor and designing its control laws to achieve rise time and maximum overshoot specifications. >
Reaction Wheel Pendulum
The Reaction Wheel Pendulum, designed at the University of Illiinois, is a final project for ECE 486. One DC motor at the end of an unpowered pendulum can stabilize in an inverted position. >
UR3 Robot Arms
Eight 6-DOF robot arms are used in ECE 470 to teach forward and inverse kinematics, manipulability and machine vision. >
Mobile Robotics
SE 423 students work with a fleet of robots, designed and built at the University of Illinois. Each robot is highly customizable with a suite of sensors and actuators. >
Propeller Pendulum
New Spring 2009, the propeller pendulum is an innovative combination of impeller control and pendulum theory. >
Furuta pendulum
SE 420 covers digital control. The final project features the Furuta pendulum, covering stabilization and swingup control >
The Pendubot
ME 598 students study the pendubot. The pendubot has a single motor that actuates an unpowered two-link arm. Feedback from position sensors mounted on each link enables the controller to balance in many poses. >
